Closet cleaned,
conscience clear
How to make space mindfully and declutter without the landfill guilt.
What do we do when it’s time to say goodbye to your old clothes?
There comes a time, when clothes are outgrown, they simply just don’t fit our style anymore, or it might be you’ve realised, I just have way too much stuff. A quick and conscious option is donating, however there are factors to consider within this. It’s not to say completely stop donating your things, but its important to know that a lot of donated clothing doesn’t even make it onto the shop floor, with majority ending up being shipped to other countries, damaging their apparel economies, and some make their way to landfill.
A mindful way to make space is reselling on second hand app, consider vinted, Depop or eBay. This option ensures that clothes are going to someone who’s going to give it a second life, it might seem like more effort, however if you put the time into it, you not only guarantee a conscious clear out, but you make a little money back too.

Swap shops and upcycling are also attractive ways to clear or rejuvenate your closet. Swap shops typically involve donating an item in exchange for a token which can be used to redeem new items in the swap shop. This way you’re helping the planet and switching up your wardrobe. Upcycling is a super fun way to modify your clothing and change your style, the only downside is you might need a few sewing skills. Our recommendation is have some fun on Pinterest and make a board with upcycling inspiration, my board is covered with button embellishments, asymmetrical ties and embroidery! Making these changes require sewing abilities, and that’s something everyone might not be willing to try or have the facilities to do so.
